I am a little shocked as when I am thinking of HT, Pioneer is not really the first place that pops into mind but the HTP-2920does look a little sleek. So does the HTZ-575DV which I tend to like a little better. Both seem decent for those just starting out since the Elite is rather costy (over a grand). I might start having to look at Pioneer a little differently now,

Pioneer is generally very expensive, believe me, I know from experience :)

I will say that I've been pleased with both my plasma panel and receiver from the Elite line.

You say they are expensive but have you found they're worth the extra money? I cringe every time I see the price of a piece of electronic equipment. It had better be worth it!

I will say that I've been happy with both the panel and the receiver, except that for the latter, you have to use a dealer to apply firmware patches, which is a serious PITA.

What exactly are the firmware patches and how are they applied? I haven't a clue when it comes to things like that. I am assuming it is some type of upgrade addition you can make?

I think you get what you pay for most times. I wouldn't be shocked to see these TV's more expensive. I also think it's where you buy the items too.
If you are paying more, will they last longer? Have a better, clearer picture?
I do think with electronis that Brands are important.
Everything electronic :)

Firmware has to do with the programs that run the most basic operations of a device. Many manufacturers can now download updates over the internet to their HDTV devices just like they would a computer.
