hello, iam looking to buy a 50 inch or bigger lcd tv and a 5.receiver. also a speaker set up for my home. i have been doing alot of reserch but after reading alot of articles and reading alot of differant oppinions i am confussed and unsure of what to buy. my living room is 14x17, not very big so i dont think i need more than 5 speakers. been thinking about getting fluance speakers, the price seems to good to be true. they have been given good reviews, but i am a little wery. my system will include a reciever a cable box (dvr) a combo vcr and dvd player and a record player. can anyone give advice on what speakers, receiver, subwoofer,tv to purchase without spending a small fortune? also how many hdmi hookups should i have on tv and reciever to hook all this up.

Welcome to the forum. What's your total budget? How about seating the room (i.e. what is the layout, entrances, exits, etc.)? That will help. Also, are you looking at floorstanding speakers or small satellite speakers on stands or something else? Will it just be a cable box, dvd source and record player hooked to it? Any plans for Blu-Ray?

Pick Sony BDVE500W 5.1-Channel High-Definition Blu-ray and DVD Disc Home Theater System mainly because of the tower speakers and the S-AIR module. It's a all in one system with a blue ray disk player that supports about 5 different digital audio codecs. It's a clean minimalist design. I was surprised by the depth of the receiver. It's bigger than I expected and fills the majority of shelf space in my entertainment stand.
