I took my grandson down to Game Crazy at 6pm and found the store closed and dark, so was the connected Hollywood Video.

A notice on the door says it was closed for failure to pay the rent. Everything is still on the shelves.

I checked the national and local news and didn't see any news about store closures, must be just a local thing?

I'm not surprised at all. The kiosk, direct mail, and online options for videos have pretty much killed the local store concept. Even Blockbuster has closed stores. I'm sure more will follow.
Is it really you, George?

Well, this is the trend that we are having today. Businesses that are online are booming. While many brick and mortar shops are closing due to this fact.

This is really too bad for those who are employed from these shops because they will be added to the unemployed lists in the country. I can't imagine how many people will be out of work with 760 shops closing down all at once.

I'm a regular at Block Buster here, and I haven't happened to notice any closures in my area.

I go there specifically looking for previously viewed DVDs for about $7 or less, so they're not making a lot of money from me.

The one and only Blockbuster in my area shut down, and 12 more in neighboring counties are shutting down or already have. They all sold their stock first, though...sounds like that particular Hollywood Video didn't have the chance to.

Our Hollywood video closed up without any warning. We were there to return movies on a Sunday, and when we went back to rent movies the next weekend, it was closed. I miss our Hollywood video a lot. I think websites really did kill it. Especially the sites where you can download movies for free. We all know they're out there. We rent from a legitimate online site now. Personally, I'd rather pay for a rental than take a chance of going to jail.
